When did it suddenly become cool to hate everything? It's a growing problem, especially in the entertainment world, and no one benefits from an increasingly hard to please, pessimistic audience.

this is the only self portrait I've ever done that I've actually liked 8D... hahaha. (well.. I've only done like four or five total in my entire life.. so... u_u )
This is the first time I've actually really used oil pastel to make a finished picture. It's also the first time I've used oil pastel in like 10 years. I'm already aware that my face looks slightly too long, my neck is slightly too thin, and also my eye on the right is like... floating upwards lmao (along with the glasses) so aside from that I'm pretty much happy with this. (besides the nose and mouth, which were frustrating me) And I pretty much just crapped out the shirt. Also it's frustrating to make dark brown with only light brown and bright blue but I made it work in some places. (I later did acquire black) 6-7 hours, oil pastel, sketchbook paper art (c) Comments
Didn't you title another self portrait something like this?
Anyway, I love that sugary-sweet cotton candy background. It's so happy and stuff, contrasted with your rather perplexed expression. Excellent handling of the actual pastels. They can be a real bitch to work with, but I think this shows what talent you have! As far as critique goes... I really can't say much. Your glasses look a bit 2D, and I was wondering if there should be a darker shadow on your face from them. The contrast is a bit low, but I have the feeling that there might not have been that much. It just doesn't seem like a high contrast setting, though beefing up contrast always helps to make an image pop. Awesome. -- Avatar by =MenInASuitcase Help me out: Commission me! lmao, yeah xD
thanks (: i love oil pastels, they're fun to.. layer. Yeah.. I think there probably was a darker shadow there but I didn't concentrate on it very much, and the glasses themselves gave me issues because red pastels aren't very soft so I couldn't go over the skin tones I already laid down so I guess I just neglected the glasses as a whole... xD We didn't actually have a nice light source in the classroom while drawing this, she didn't turn on/off specific lights or anything thanks you! -- :trout: "wake up, sweetie."
